In Liam’s memory our main focus has always been to raise money for charities that support children and their families who have been affected by Cancer. So we are proud this year to be raising money again for The Brain Tumour Charity.
In addition we always seek out other charities to support that have a direct link to friends and families in the surrounding area. This year we have chosen the Anthony Nolan charity and also Diabetes UK.
Our friend, Ian Wilson, or perhaps better known to most as Larry, has recently suffered from Leukaemia; a blood cancer that affects over 25,000 people a year in the UK. Thankfully, he is now recovering and making excellent progress. We thought it would be a great idea to raise money for Anthony Nolan which assists patients and their families in dealing with the challenges that coping with blood cancer can create. Larry is determined to come and ride the event this year!
We will also be supporting Diabetes UK this year. Reenie Holman, the daughter of one of our committee members, discovered that she has type 1 Diabetes earlier this year. Diabetes is a common life-long health condition. There are 3.2 million people diagnosed with diabetes in the UK and an estimated 630,000 people who have the condition, but don’t know it. Diabetes UK provides a wide range of services and products to affected individuals and their families, and is one of the main organisations in the UK raising awareness of the disease and providing vital support and information to make living with diabetes much easier and manageable over time.
We hope you agree that supporting these three charities this year is a very worthwhile cause indeed. For more details on each charity please click their logos to be directed to their homepages.
